The longest natural sand spit in the country — a flat 5.5-mile walk out to the New Dungeness Lighthouse, with seals, eagles, and mountain views the whole way.

When to visit Sequim
Spring (Mar–May)
Quiet trails, migrating shorebirds on Dungeness Spit and some of the best nightly rates of the year. Hurricane Ridge often still has snow.
Summer (Jun–Aug)
Peak season. Lavender blooms late June through July, the Discovery Trail is busy with cyclists and evenings stay light past 9pm. Book early.
Fall (Sep–Nov)
Warm, dry September days, fewer crowds and salmon runs on nearby rivers. A great time for longer stays.
Winter (Dec–Feb)
Sequim's rain shadow means drier winter days than the rest of the peninsula. Cozy hot-tub weekends and storm watching on the strait.

SEA (Seattle-Tacoma) is about 2.5 hours via the Edmonds–Kingston ferry, or 3 hours all-driving through Tacoma. CLM in Port Angeles handles small aircraft.
Rental cars
Book at SEA — on-peninsula inventory is thin in summer. A car is essential; there is no practical transit to trailheads.
Best arrival time
Aim to clear the Kingston ferry before 2pm or after 7pm on Fridays; midday summer sailings routinely run one to two boats behind.
Groceries
Costco, Safeway, QFC, and the Sequim Food Co-op are all in town — stock up here before heading west toward Forks.
